1954 - 1955:11 years old: I went with my father to a film, Jules Verne's "20.000 miles beneath sea" in which Kirk Douglas started to sing fisherman-songs, along with a mandoline manufactured from the scale of a turtle… Back home I did the same, using a wooden cigar crate which I stretched about using some elastic rubber bands to imitate the sound of strings, and then I tried to sing that sailor song again and again... (to despair of my parents…)

Somewhere in 1955: With- and also for some kids from the block, every week-end we tried to perform a little "show" in which we copied and played several acts that I saw each week in the "Ancienne Belgique" while visiting my mother. Generally it were magic tricks, sketches and of course ..... songs, sung by the performing artists.

1956: Almost 13!!! Almost a TEENAGER!!! I discovered Rock and Roll with Bill Haley and his Comets' "See You later alligator" and "Rock around the Clock". I listened to almost each hit on the radio, and saved my pocket money to be able to buy records (78-rpm's), then tried to copy the lyrics to sing and play along as crazy!

Somewhere between 1957 and 1961:  I bought my first guitar - 10 euro/dollars at the time -, Every day of the week, myself and some 'coole' pals performed real action gigs in the town park at the lights from the head lamps of the motorbikes of our fans (I think that nobody could really hear us, due to the the noise of the engines, but it sure was COOL !!!). And won't you believe it, doing so we were 'discovered' by a little local female singer at that time, Terry Lamo, which presented us to her producer and business manager Fred Steyn. I formed a duo, The "Blue Shadows" along with Andy White on guitar, and in the same period I 'got stung' by Elvis and 'moved' by Cliff. We played and sang almost all Presley- and Cliff hits. I even was awarded as "Belgian Cliff Richard", but it all suddely came to an end because of...

1962: A whole year was lost because of my 'military service'…. but after all, thanks to Freddy Delagaye, a great jazz trompet player, I learned a lot doing regular gigs at the officers-mess.

Fall 1962: Once dismissed from the Belgian army, I was asked by Roel Van Bambost to join his band THE ROPES (a student-rock-band) as lead guitarist and second conjugating vocalist. We played BEATLES, PRESLEY, STONES, CLIFF, SHADOWS, ORBISON etc.… Our gigs were generally in night clubs, parties, school-dances and more…

But some years later… the band splitt because of the rising FOLK MUSIC-rage. Our lead singer ROEL OF BAMBOST left the band to start his own folk-song-project: "MIEK & ROEL". I took Roel's place and we even started writing own songs. We rehearsed as crazy to build a real ROCK-OPERA: "DEAR DAVID". All songs were written by JOHN WATSON (my bro-in-law) and myself. Also in the same period JAN MILLER joined the band on keyboards and organ. Also Gilbert Ponnet, Willy Tranchet, Frank Watson, Roland Boydens, Franky Jones, Etienne Van Beethoven a.o. became fixed values within the ROPES. We played our gigs everywhere in the country, among lots of performances at the S.H.A.P.E. and regular studio-jobs.

I also did a lot of gigs - with John Watson and Roland Payne - as a vocalist-guitar-player in NANCY DEE' s band.

In 1976, the ROPES made their last performance (the band ended because of a lot of different reasons: work, marriage, other ambitions, ect...).

1977 - 1993: In that period I played in several groups and in holiday centers as a freelance musician, varied along with lots of hobbys such as sailing, windsurfing and diving. But the music-bug remained!!!! ..........

1994:  I did a reunion-concert with some ol' time 'ROPES' for the fun of it and we played our old AWARD-SONG, Burl Ives' LITTLE BITTY TEAR…

That did it! After thorough dusting off my guitar (LOL), I fell in love with some nice classics or COUNTRY MUSIC. Each month I played my songs in THE WICHITA C.C. at Meulebeke as ONE MAN BAND for a complete new kind of audience that really was passionate  by a new hype: "Country and Line dance".

In 1997, I released my first country/linedance full CD (Something Old, Something New). And added up a lot of Country & western clubs, as well as other great places to my gig adresses! Thanks for having me guys!!!

As from 2000 more and more new LINE DANCE SONGS were added to the repertoire, along with good old varied COUNTRY, COUNTRY ROCK, BALLADS and many requests.

End 2001:  A New LIVE full CD was born featuring my new trio…. - "ROPES" of course, - with my oldest son David on drums and bass-lines, and Jan Miller on keyboards.

But in January 2002, Jan started his own non-country project and was replaced by Nick Keghels on lead guitar. However the trio was not granted to last long because of ......

July 2002:  A black page… Someone seemed to call me for "the eternal hunting grounds"… but I thanked provisionally!

2003: Recovered from a heavy medical intervention and an absence of 6 months, I was back, alive and kickin’ as one-piece-band and a six-string!

2006: This is the year that I celebrate my "50 years on stage", and at the same time I'm recording some LIVE-takes of OWN written’ songs to be released on a new CD "Over the Hill" somewhere this same year!!! (Meanwhile OUT !!!!!)

2006 (October) : On that same CD there's the song "Cheyenne Woman", on which my friend/choreographer Arne Stakkestad wrote a splendid couple-dance which is very appreciated by public & dancers! By all means once more my unconditional thanks to Arne!!! (Meanwhile sold-out and only available by request)

2007: Because of the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of Elvis Presley's passing away, I made an album by request of many fans in restricted amounts (SABAM) "Rene Guylline sings ELVIS". 28 songs witch I regularly bring on stage for many years . (Meanwhile sold-out and only available by request also) 

2008-2009-2010-2011-2012: gigs, gigs & gigs... !!! ;-)

1954 - 1955: 11 jaar oud: Ik ging met mijn vader naar een film, Jules Verne’s “20.000 mijlen onder zee” waarin Kirk Douglas een mandoline vervaardigde uit het schild van een zeeschildpad en zeemans-liedjes begon te zingen... Terug thuis deed ik hetzelfde, gebruik makend van een houten sigaren-kistje waarover ik enkele elastiekjes  spande om het geluid van “snaren” te imiteren, en dan probeerde ik steeds maar opnieuw dat zeemansliedje na te zingen (tot wanhoop van mijn ouders...)

Ergens in 1955: Samen met en voor enkele “kids from the block”, trachtten wij een ‘show’ in elkaar te flansen waarbij wij verscheide “acts” naspeelden dewelke ik elke voorbije week had gezien in de “Ancienne Belgique”. Meestal waren dat goocheltrucs, sketchen en natuurlijk..... gezongen nummers van de optredende artiesten.

1956: Bijna 13!!! Bijna TEENAGER !!! Ik ontdekte Rock and Roll  met  Bill Haley and his Comets’ “See You Later Alligator” en “Rock around the Clock”. Ik luisterde naar bijna elke « hit » op de radio, en spaarde als bezeten mijn zakgeld om plaatjes (78-toeren) te kunnen kopen, daarna zo goed als het kon de tekst te copiëren om dan uit volle borst mee te kwelen.

Zowat tussen  1957 en 1961:  Ik kocht mijn eerste gitaar – 10 Euro/Dollars in die tijd - , ikzelf en enkele “coole” maten gaven heuse optredens in het stadspark bij het licht uit de koplampen van de ‘brommers’ van onze “fans” (niemand kon ons echt horen door het kabaal van de motoren, maar “wijs” dat dit was!!!). En geloof het of niet, zodoende werden we ‘ontdekt’ door een bekend plaatselijk zangeresje in die tijd “Terry Lamo”, welke ons voorstelde aan haar producer en impresario Fred Steyn. Ik ging een duo vormen “The Blue Shadows” samen met Andy White op gitaar, en in diezelfde periode werd ik geprikt (I got stung) door Elvis  en ge-moved door Cliff. We speelden en zongen bijna alle Presley- en Cliff hits. Ik werd zelfs ‘ge-awarded’ als “Belgian Cliff Richard”, maar aan dit alles kwam prompt een eind door….

1962: Een gans jaar ‘verloren’ vanwege mijn militaire dienstplicht…. maar allé, daar heb ik toch ook nog veel bijgeleerd dankzij regelmatige optredens in de officieren-mess met o.a. Jazz trompettist Freddy Delagaye!

Herfst 1962: Eens ontslagen uit het Belgisch leger, werd ik gevraagd door Roel Van Bambost om zijn bandje  THE ROPES (een studenten-rock-groepje) te vervoegen als lead guitarist en tweede vocalist. We speelden BEATLES, PRESLEY, STONES, CLIFF, SHADOWS, ORBISON enz... Onze optredens waren meestal in night clubs, party's, schoolfeestjes en zo meer...

Maar na enkele jaren... splitte de band vanwege de opkomende FOLK MUSIC-rage. Onze voorzanger ROEL VAN BAMBOST verliet de band om gestalte te geven aan zijn ‘kleinkunst’ project: MIEK & ROEL. Ik nam Roel’s plaats in en we startten zelfs met het schrijven van eigen songs. We repeteerden ons te pletter aan een heuse ROCK-OPERA : “DEAR DAVID”. Alle songs waren van de hand van JOHN WATSON (mij schoonbroer) en van mijzelf. In diezelfde periode vervoegde ook JAN MILLER de band op keyboards and orgel. Ook Gilbert Ponnet, Willy Tranchet, Frank Watson, Roland Boydens, Franky Jones, Etienne Van Beethoven  e.a. werden vaste waarden bij de “ROPES”. We traden zowat overal op in het land, waaronder ook in de S.H.A.P.E. en deden heel wat studio-werk.

In 1976 maakten de “ROPES” hun laatste opwachting (de band werd ontbonden om uiteenlopende redenen (werk, huwelijk, andere ambities, ect...).

1977 – 1993 : In die periode speelde ik in diverse groepen en in vakantie-centra als freelance muzikant afgewisseld met mijn hobbys as zeiler, windsurfer and sportduiker.... maar de muziek-kriebels haalden uiteindelijk opnieuw de bovenhand!!!!..........

1994:  Ik deed een reunie-concert met enkele “ol’time ROPES” voor de lol en we speelden onze oude AWARD–SONG, Burl Ives' LITTLE BITTY TEAR... Dit deed het! Na het grondig afstoffen van mijn gitaar (LOL) werd ik echt verliefd op enkele knappe “classics” of COUNTRY MUSIC. Elke maand  speelde ik mijn songs in THE WICHITA C.C. te Meulebeke als een “ONE MAN BAND” voor een ‘nieuw’ publiek dat echt gepassioneerd was door een nieuwe rage: Country en Line Dance.

In 1997 bracht ik mijn eerste ‘full country/linedance CD’ (Something Old, Something New) uit. En tot en met vandaag zijn heel veel Country & Western Clubs, zowel als andere gigs aan mijn palmares toegevoegd! Thanks for having me guys!!!

Vanaf 2000  werden méér en méér LINE DANCE SONGS toegevoegd aan het repertoire, afgewisseld met goeie ouwe COUNTRY, COUNTRY ROCK en veel verzoekjes .

Eind  2001:  Een nieuw “LIVE” FULL CD werd geboren ter ere van mijn trio….”ROPES” natuurlijk, - met mijn oudste zoon David op drums en bass-lines, en  Jan Miller op keyboards.

Maar in januari 2002, startte Jan zijn eigen non-country project en werd vervangen door Nick Kegels op ‘lead guitar’. Het trio was echter geen lang leven gegund wegens......

Juli 2002:  Een zwarte bladzijde... Iemand leek me te roepen voor “de eeuwige (lees gelukkige) - jachtvelden”... maar ik bedankte voorlopig!

2003 : Hersteld na een zware ingreep en een 6 maanden lange afwezigheid, was ik sneller dan verwacht terug “alive and kickin’ als een “one-piece-band and a six-string” !

2006: Dit is het jaar waarbij ik mijn “50 jaar op de planken ” vier, en te zelfder tijd nieuwe LIVE-takes aan het opnemen ben van een aantal EIGEN songs, om deze uit te brengen in een nieuwe Full CD "Over the Hill" ergens ditzelfde jaar!!! enne... (Inmiddels uit !!!!!)

2006 (oktober)... : Op die CD staat "Cheyenne Woman", waarop vriend/choreograaf Arne Stakkestad een prachtige couple-dans schrijft welke enorm veel bijval geniet ! Via deze weg ook onvoorwaardelijke dank aan Arne !!! (Inmiddels uitverkocht en alleen nog op aanvraag beschikbaar)

2007 : Wegens de herdenking van de dertigste verjaardag van Elvis Presley's overlijden breng ik op verzoek van velen een album uit in beperkte oplage (SABAM) "Rene Guylline sings ELVIS". 28 songs welke ik door de jaren heen regelmatig bracht. (Inmiddels uitverkocht en alleen nog op aanvraag beschikbaar)

1954 - 1955: J’ai11 ans: Je suis allé voir un film avec mon père, Jules Verne « 20.000 milles sous la mer » dans lequel Kirk Douglas chante, accompagné d’une mandoline fabriquée de l'échelle d'une tortue de mer, des chansons de marins… De retour a la à la maison j'ai fait la même chose, faisant usage en bois d'une caissette de cigare dont j'ai tendu quelques elastiques pour imiter le son « des cordes », et alors j'ai essayé 1000 fois d’imiter la chansonnette de marin (jusqu'à la détresse de mes parents…)

Quelque-part en 1955 : Avec et pour quelques « gars du blocq », nous avons essayé de bâcler un ‘spectacle' reproduisant des acts que j’allais voir chaque semaine, avec ma maman a « l'Ancienne Belgique ». C’etaient le plus souvent trucs de magiciens, des scetches et naturellement des numéros..... chantés par les artistes intervenants.

1956 : Presque 13 ! ! ! Presque « TEENAGER » ! ! ! Je découvre le Rock and Roll avec Bill Haley and his Comets' « See You Later Alligator » et « Rock around the Clock ». J' écoute presque chaque « hit » sur la radio, et j’épargne presque tout mon argent de poche pour pouvoir acheter des disques 78-tpm, après j’essaye aus bien que possible de copier les paroles pour pouvoir les chanter aussi de poitrine pleine.

Entre 1957 et 1961 :  J' achete ma premiere guitarre d’environ 10 euros/dollars dans ce temps -, et avec quelques « coole guys » on donne des concerts accoustics (LOL) dans le parc urbain dans les phares des biciclètes à moteur de nos « fans » . (Je crois maintenant que personne n'a pu entendre véritablement notre musique par le bruit des moteurs, mais ohlala c’était « groovy » ! ! !). Et  incroyable, ainsi on nous a ‘découvert' par une chanteuse locale bien connu dans ce temps « Terry Lamo » qui nous a présentés à son réalisateur et l'impresario Fred Steyn. J'ai alors formé un duo,  « The Blue Shadows » avec Andy White sur guitarre et dans cette même période j'ai été piqué (I got stung) par Elvis et j’ai été ‘moved’ par Cliff. Nous avons joué et chanté presque tout les hits de Presley et de Cliff. J'ai même reçcu l’award du «Cliff Richard Belge», mais à tout ceci est venue une fin rapide par….

1962 : Une année totalement perdue du fait de mon service militaire…. mais enfin, j’ai encore appris baucoup de Freddy Delagaye (trompette de jazz très connu) avec qui j’ai fait assez de performances régulières dans le mess d’officiers.

L'automne 1962 : Licenciés une fois de l'armée belge, j'ai été demandé en conjuguant Roel Van Bambost pour sa bande THE ROPES (rock-band d’étudiants) comme lead guitarist et deuxième vocalist. Nous jouons BEATLES, PRESLEY, STONES, CLIFF, SHADOWS, ORBISON… Nos actions ont été le plus souvent dans des night-clubs, soirées, thé-dansants ect, ect…

Mais après quelques années… le groupe fait un splitt à cause de la nouvelle rage de la FOLK MUSIC. Notre chanteur ROEL VAN BAMBOST quitté le band pour former son nouveau projet de la forme : MIEK & ROEL. J'ai pris la place de Roel et nous avons (re)démarré même en écrivant des chansons propres. Nous avons répété à en mourir créant un vrai ROCK-OPERA: « DEAR DAVID ». Toutes les chansons de la main de JOHN WATSON (mon beau-frère) et de moi-même. Dans cette même période aussi JAN MILLER a conjugué le band sur keyboards et orgue. Aussi, Gilbert Ponnet, Willy Tranchet, Watson franc, Roland Boydens, Franky Jones, Etienne Van Beethoven etc... ont été les valeurs fixes dans le groupe« ROPES ». Nous avons intervenu presque partout dans le pays et nous on a fait aussi beaucoup de gigs au S.H.A.P.E. et en studio.

Aussi, beaucoup d'actions - avec John Watson et Roland Payne - en tant que chanteur-guitariste dans le band de NANCY DEE ont passé la revue.

En 1976, « les ROPES » font leur dernier gig (le groupe a été dissous pour des raisons divergentes (travail, mariage, d'autres ambitions, ect…).

1977 - 1993 : Dans cette période, j'ai joué dans divers groupes et dans des centres de vacances en tant que musicien-freelance alterné avec mes passes-temps en faisant de la voile, windsurfing et comme plongeur sous-marin…. mais les « petites bêtes » de la musique ont finalement de nouveau obtenu le dessus ! ! ! ! ..........

1994 :  J'ai fait un concert-reunion avec quelques « vieux » des ROPES » pour la rigolade et nous avons joué notre vieil AWARD-SONG, Burl Ives' A LITTLE BITTY TEAR… Ceci l’a fait ! Après épousseter approfondi ma guitare  (LOL), je suis  véritablement tombé amoureux de quelques « classics  » de la COUNTRY MUSIC. Chaque mois j'ai joué publiquement mes chansons aux  « WICHITA C.C. » à Meulebeke comme « one man band » pour un tout nouveau public, véritablement passionné pour une nouvelle rage : Le Country et Line dance.

En 1997, j'ai émis mon premier `full country/linedance CD' (Something Old, Something New). Et jusque maintenant, y compris aujourd'hui, beaucoup de Country & western clubs, aussi bien d'autres gigs du style ‘country’ sont ajoutés a ma liste de performances ! Thanks for having me guys ! ! ! (Merci de m’avoir eus, les gars !!!)

À partir de 2000, de plus en plus de chansons de LINE DANCE ont été ajouté au repertoire, alterné de CLASSIC COUNTRY, le COUNTRY ROCK, des BALLADES et beaucoup de ‘demandes spéciales’.

Fin 2001 :  Un nouveau FULL CD « LIVE » est né avec mon trio…. «  ROPES », - naturellement - , avec mon fils aîné David sur drums et bass-lines, et Jan Miller sur  keyboards.

Mais en janvier 2002, Jan démarre son propre projet ‘non-country’ et a été remplacé par Nick Keghels sur `lead guitar'. Le trio toutefois ne sera pas accordé une longue vie parce que ......

Juillet 2002 :  Une page noire… Quelqu'un me semble appeler pour « les terrains de chasse éternels »… mais j'ai remercié provisoirement !

2003 : Après un intervention churgicale assez lourde et 6 mois de longue absence, enfin rétablie, j’y suis de retour « alive and kickin' comme « one-piece-band & a six-string » !

2006 : C'est l'année dans laquelle je fête mes« 50 années sur scène  », et en même temps je fais des enregistrements d'un nombre de chansons PROPRES pour émettre un CD tout nouveau ! ! ! "Over the Hill" (... et déja sorti en septembre 2006 ! ! !)

2006 (octobre) : Sur ce CD se trouve aussi la chanson « Cheyenne Woman » sur laquele mon ami/chorégraphe Arne Stakkestad a écrit une danse-couple magnifique qui a beaucoup d'appréciation auprès des danseurrs ! Via cette voie je remercie aussi Arne encore une fois inconditionnellement ! ! ! (entre-temps, épuisé, et encore uniquement disponible sur demande)

2007 : Pour cause de la commémoration du trentième anniversaire de décès d'Elvis Presley, j'émets un album sur demande spéciale de "fans" (SABAM) « Rene Guylline sings ELVIS ». 28 chansons que j'ai chanté régulièrement pendant des années. (entre-temps, aussi épuisé et encore uniquement disponible sur demande)
